HOME CAREER OPPORTUNITIES CLINICAL EDUCATION PROGRAM FOR PATIENT CARE GIVERS

Clinical Education Program
for Patient Care Givers

Clinical Services and Education

We believe that quality patient care comes from a strong educational foundation. Beginning with orientation, this foundation will assist each employee to achieve an optimum functioning level. We also believe that a sound continuing education program is necessary to develop, maintain, and augment competence in dialysis practice.

This program encompasses theory classes, hands on practice with an assigned preceptor, a self study guide, the dialysis core curriculum, organized education for safety officers and preceptors, continuing education classes in each facility and a library of educational tools including videos and PowerPoint slides.

As a result of the DCA Clinical Education program, we expect to achieve improved patient outcomes and satisfaction, as well as federal and state regulatory compliance. All of these achievements will keep DCA an industry leader in quality patient care.

Employee Orientation

Orientation generally lasts two to six weeks depending on the new employee's previous dialysis experience.

Clinical practice for new employees is under the direction of the Facility Administrator and the Preceptor. An Employee Orientation/Education Manual is available at each facility describing daily and weekly objectives for orientation. Specific outlines are available for each clinical job description. A copy of the weekly progress note is to be submitted to your Clinical Services Coordinator. Upon completion of the theory education class, each employee is required to take a final written exam and pass with a score of 80% or above. The Administrator gives the exam and a graded copy is submitted to your Clinical Services Coordinator.

Any new employee with previous experience will need to pass the exam with a score of 80% or better to be excused from the theory class.

All new employees without dialysis experience will be given a copy of the dialysis core curriculum. In addition, a self study guide is available at each facility for use by any new employee.

All formal classes noted in this outline are held in Valdosta, GA and Camp Hill, PA. Other sites are scheduled as needed.
